Big patios, decks and alfresco areas need a rug that covers the whole setting. Most are woven from polypropylene, some from recycled plastic, and most can be hosed clean.
Polypropylene and recycled plastic are synthetic fibres that absorb very little water, so they dry faster than natural fibres such as jute or wool. Shake or sweep off leaves and dirt, hose the rug down when it needs a clean, and let it dry fully before rolling it up. During long wet spells, lifting the rug or moving it under cover lets the deck or paving underneath dry out and helps the rug last longer.
