Easy ways achieve a Hamptons/beachy look in your home.
Beaches, water, blue skies, all of these words give us a feeling of calm. Perhaps that why people love the Hamptons look and beachy style in their home.
Its easy to achieve this look with a few simple tweaks. Best news of all, you don't have to throw out all your furniture to achieve this look. Just a can of white paint. A great place to look for this style, if you are looking for furniture, is one of the upcycling sites of facebook, such as Rustic Edge, and Home Styling Werx.
First of all, blue and white are the colours to add. This is different from a Nordic look, which doesn't have a lot of blue at all, more white and natural. However, you don't have to change all the furnishings, as this look can be achieved with a few new soft furnishings. You can even keep the wooden furniture if you don't have the budget to change it, as it actually goes quite well with white and blue and can add a bit of interest, thus avoiding a too sterile look. A little bit of whitewash on the furniture looks great.
If your budget allows it, some new furniture in rattan, or another natural material will be a good first step. Then adding a rug and new cushions can help enormously.
Avoid the temptation to add lots of little "beachy" type ornaments, apart from a few select pieces to avoid the feeling of a holiday rental. Keep it simple with gorgeous white chunky candle holders, large natural baskets, crisp white bedlinen, with a few blue tones.
The furniture doesn't have to be traditional as modern works just as well. A rug in a modern style or a jute rug works well. A bit of greenery will work as well. In my opinion, too much navy and white is a bit of an overkill, and looks a little sterile.
All in all, its a fun way to decorate, is always in style, so wont date for years to come, and its easy to change the furniture and soft furnishings without breaking the bank.
That has to be a good thing, right?
