Transitional rugs have been the biggest emergent style over the last couple of years as well as rugs with fringes such as Saffron
We are still seeing shag pile rugs sell well and also natural fibre rugs such as jute and wool.
Although this rug was released a few years ago it continues to sell strongly, the soft pink hues of the rug tie in really well with pink cushions. This rug is heat set polypropylene so its hard wearing and easy to take care of.
Shop Dimensions 420 Blush Modern Rug
For those looking for a natural option for their rug, the Allure Stone Cotton Rayon Rug is a great choice. It features a 65% Rayon and 35% Cotton pile which gives it a luxury feel underfoot while still being affordable. Rayon is created from regenerated plant material that has the quality of pure silk and is anti-static.
Love our new rug :)
Rug is excellent quality. Exactly as pictured and described. Very happy. - Cait B
We have found shag pile rugs have become a little less popular than they used to be however this one continues to be a best seller for us. Many of our customers put this rug down in bedrooms as it provides a beautifully thick soft underfoot feel while the colour is calm and inviting.
Great rug
"A beautiful rug, that feels good on the feet and ties a whole room together. Goes amazing with white Ikea furniture and a pink themed room. Not overly bright, which is great because most other products (blankets, pillows, covers) that stores sell aren't, so it matched with most everything I was buying. Would highly recommend." - Jordan
Yes, its another shag pile rug! The Alpine shaggy has been another strong seller for us. You can really go wrong with a rug like this as they will go with almost any colour combination and are really nice to walk on in bare feet.
Shag rugs will also last a long time as they have such a thick pile.
This rug is our best seller so far for 2021. This rug is hand loomed and made of jute, a natural fibre. Its important to remember with jute rugs that they aren't as soft underfoot as polypropylene or wool rugs. They are extremely hard wearing however and look amazing.
These come in a variety of colours but this bleached style is the most popular and we think its due to the natural understated neutral tones that can tie in with almost any other colour.
Shop Chunky Natural Jute Barker Bleach Rug
Its going to be an exciting year as we have more ranges to be released this year and will continue to keep up with the latest in trends so be sure to check back to the website regularly for the latest releases.

The first benefit of the effective use of rounds rugs is to offset this initial impression by bringing to it a softer and more intimate area. With a variety of sizes to choose from, this effect can work in rooms of different floor areas in your home.
Next, if you consider the current flooring in a room, it can be easy to appreciate how a specific choice of round area rug can combine with it and enhance the overall aspect. This is true, for example, when a burnt orange or rust-coloured round rug is matched with traditional or modern wooden flooring. There are many other possibilities to pair with perhaps a wall-to-wall carpet, or even a superb mosaic of ceramic tiles.
Carnival White Transitional Round Rug
The last way a small round rug can be so effective is in creating an intimate area in a larger room. For example, a flat weave, hand-braided, round jute rug might be matched with a stylish coffee table to create a separate focal point within the complete aspect of the total room area.
When choosing your round rug to achieve any of the benefits we've mentioned, it's good to have a variety of size options, from 120cm to 240cm. When these possibilities are matched with a variety of materials, from cotton to wool and polypropylene and more - each with their own valuable properties - then the possibilities for round rugs to add so much to your home are certainly worth browsing here: https://www.floorsome.com.au/collections/round-rugs
Here at Floorsome we are very proud of our recycled plastic rug and mat range. We offer once of the largest selections in Australia. With our speedy shipping times you can literally order one of these beauties and have them sitting on your deck on patio within a few days! Being made from recycled plastic means you are doing your bit for the environment.
Outdoor Rug Recycled Plastic - Brooklyn Blue
The plastic used in these rugs is selected from a variety of different sources such as plastic bags, drink bottles, medicine bottles, tin foil, shopping bags, carpet fibres and a range of other things that are normally thrown into landfill. Normally these items would sit in landfill for many years so the fact they can be re purposed into new items is wonderful news.
The plastic items are then melted down into large vats which have a colour dye mixed in with them. This melted down plastic is then forced through a pipe so it comes out in the form of straws. The straws are then woven around spool which can then go onto a loom.
The loom then weaves the plastic straws together creating the mat!. After the mat is finished the ends are capped off with tape. For some of the larger mats they may be stitched together. (If a mat is stitched together this will be advertised). The result is a wonderfully soft yet hard-wearing mat that will last many years.
Outdoor Rug Recycled Plastic - Kilimanjaro
Of course most of of our customers use their recycled plastic rugs for under an outdoor setting but don't think this is all they are good for! These rugs can also be great as an easily washable indoor rug. Often used in kids rooms or play areas where spills are common. As these rugs are very light they can easily be rolled up and taken to a variety of outdoor activities such and camping, the beach, picnics, sporting events and BBQ's.
HIGH TIDE Recycled Plastic Outdoor Mat / Rug, Green & Grey 3x3m can be used for camping and is easy to fold up.
You might see some of our recycled rugs with the PET label on them and wonder what does this mean? The main difference with these rugs is the feel of them. Our PET rugs feel more like a wool rug than a plastic rug. They are made from recycled plastic bottles.Although they have the appearance to something closer to an indoor rug these rugs are still totally fine to get wet and are UV treated. Select one of these rugs if you want a rug that is soft like wool and can still be used outside without worry. These rugs also make great indoor rugs!
Indoor Outdoor Recycled Plastic PET Polypropylene Rug Longwood
As these rugs are totally waterproof simply hose them down and then let to air dry or even hang it on the line. For spot cleaning just use some kitchen spray such and spray and wipe.
We have a large range of recycled plastic rugs and mats right here :https://www.floorsome.com.au/collections/recycled-plastic-outdoor-rugs
Our recycled plastic rugs are usually shipped the next business day and can take anywhere from 1-5 business days to get you depending on where you live. They are shipped from our warehouses in Sydney and Tweed Heads.

Carnival White Transitional Runner Rug
As a general rule its good to have a 10 - 15 cm gap of visible flooring around the runner on all sides. Its also no problem if you have a larger gap of floor visible at each end if your hallway is a little longer.
Our runners come in sizes of 3m, 4m and 5m long and 80cm wide which should be suitable for most hallways. (To look at sizing just click on the runner you like then look for the drop down "size" menu on the product page) If you have a very long hallway you can easily use two smaller runners and just join them half way. They are fine just sitting next to each other but another option is to have them professionally joined by an over locker.
A common question we are asked is if we have custom sized runners, the answer to this is no we don't, as all our runners come pre-cut from the manufacturer.
Choosing what your rug is made of is an important consideration in the journey to choosing your ideal runner. Below is some information on different materials.
Wool: Hardwearing and soft, wool is still the gold standard fibre in rugs and for good reason, it will last for years and its luxurious underfoot. Great for high traffic areas. Wool is a little less stain resistant than synthetic fibres so we recommend cleaning stains as soon as you notice them. The drawback with wool is generally they can cost a bit more than synthetic rugs.
Heatset Polypropylene: Feels very soft to the touch and is one of the hardest wearing piles. This fibre is also very stain resistant so great for high traffic areas.
BCF Polypropylene: Generally our cheaper rugs are made from this process. These rugs are well priced but wont wear as hard as the more expensive Heatset Poly and Wool rugs. That said however they will last for years if cared for and are very inexpensive so you can update the look of your hallway without breaking the bank.
Jute/Sisal: Jute and sisal rugs have a natural look that can really bring and organic feel to a hallway. While these rugs are very hard wearing its important to note they will are a little harsher underfoot than some of our other rugs and also can stain easier like all natural rugs so its important to clean up stains as quickly as possible.
This is where you personal preference should come into play, look at choosing a hallway runner that will match the style and decor of your home.
Styles
Traditional Runners: These tend to go very well with wooden floors, it will give the hallway a rich inviting feel. If your home has a more traditional style of decor then this style of runner can be a great choice.
Modern Runners: Modern runners go very will with both tiles and and wooden floors. Keep in mind if you are choosing your runner for an entryway then the runner will set the tone for the style in the rest of the house.
Natural Fibre Runners: These runners have more of a natural look to the them and have some great earthy tones for an inviting feel.
Colour
Again this will certainly come down to preference but we can offer some tips to help you choose a great colour for your hallway runner.
If your hallway is painted in a fairly neutral colour like white or grey, consider using a brighter bolder colour to add some flair to the space.
You should also consider your colour scheme for the rest of the house and choose a colour that will tie in with your other rugs and decor.
If you have more of a bright colour scheme it can be a good idea to just pick a runner that is similar colour to your flooring and it will blend right in.
Do I need a rug pad?
Rug pads have several benefits and should be a serious consideration for you when you buy your new runner. Rugs that are subject to heavy traffic can often move around slightly on the floor and a rug pad will keep the rug from moving. Rug pads will also extend the life of your rug as they offer a bit of give under the runner so its not taking the full weight of the traffic that passes over it. If you still aren't sure feel free to give your runner a trial without the rug pad and then if you feel its moving about too much you can always order a rug pad after.
Pile Thickness:
Lastly you should consider the pile height of your runner. Check to make sure it will fit under any doors that may open into the hallway that its sitting in. If you are looking for something really soft underfoot a shag runner can be a great choice. If you have pets and children however and want something that will be easy to keep clean a flat weave pile might be a better choice. Heatset polypropylene rugs are also a great choice for the hard wearing option and are super easy to clean.
That's the end of our guide and we hope it has helped you on your journey to finding the perfect hallway runner, if you have any more questions please do not hesitate to email us at info@floorsome.com.au and we will be happy to answer any questions you might have. If you have any comments or suggestions please leave a comment below!

One of the most common questions we are asked is what size rug should I buy? We have put together this handy guide to help you choose the perfect size rug to go in your home.
The recommended sizes below are just approximates so feel free to choose sizes that are similar.
Before you start!
Measure the area out first. It can be easy to just try and estimate what size rug you want and then end up getting the wrong size and having to send it back! This can be avoided by simply picking the size you think will be suitable and then taking the tape measure and actually measuring out where the rug will end.
Recommended Sizes: ( 400x300cm, 320x230cm, 290x200cm and 230x160cm(for smaller lounge rooms))
Bigger is better! Although it can be tempting to choose a smaller size rug because they are cheaper this can often make the room look smaller. Make a statement with your rug and go big!
First, look at the coffee table, this will often be where the centre of the rug will be, you would at least want the rug to be large enough to go under the legs of the surrounding lounge and chairs in the room.
Recommended sizes: (230x160cm, 165x115cm, 130x70cm)
Put the rug under the bed and have a symmetrical border around the edges, make sure the rug is large enough that you can see a good amount of the rug.
Another idea is to get a smaller rug and put it next to the bed, this can add a splash of colour and set the tone for the room.
Finally you could also buy two small runners in a 200x80cm size and then put one on each side of the bed. We have some of these in a shag pile style and they are super soft under your bare feet:
Recommended Sizes: ( 400x300cm, 320x230cm, 290x200cm)
With dining rooms you want all the legs of the table and chairs to be on the rug.
Measure your dining table and then add on an extra metre all the way around to allow enough room for you to pull out the chairs and remain on the rug.
Entryways: A good runner will do the trick here, measure out the length of your hallway and choose an appropriate size (300x80cm, 400x30cm or 500x80cm).
Note: Have you considered a new door mat? They can be used for a cheap and easy way to change up the look of your entryway. Door mats here.
Hallways: This is what runners are designed for. Again always measure first! This will save on the headache of having to send the runner back for replacement. (300x80cm, 400x30cm or 500x80cm).
Office: A smaller rug may be appropriate here, put a rug under your desk and make sure you have enough room for your chair to move back and forward on the rug. (230x160cm should do the trick!)
Outdoors: Depending on the outdoor setting the rules will be similar to our dining or lounge room size guides. Make sure all the legs of the outdoor furniture are sitting on the rug and allow for enough room for chairs to move back and forth. A large outdoor rug will make a great statement!
Thank you for taking the time to read our guide, we are always on hand to take further questions so please do not hesitate to email us at info@floorsome.com.au if you need anymore help with choosing your rug.

Choosing a rug can be a stressful decision to make as there are many factors to consider. Firstly, the colour you choose needs to match the rest of your decor such as your cushions, lounge and wall art. Next, it's important to pick the correct size rug, as a rug that is too small will look out of place and a rug that is too large may cost you more than it needs to. Thirdly, the type of rug should be considered, do you want something that is super soft and fluffy or a harder wearing low pile rug for high traffic areas. All these should be considered before the decision is made.
If you are decorating an entire room the most common advice from interior decorators is to "start with the rug". This means choose the rug before you pick any other decor. The reason for this is because then you can use the rug as an anchor for the rest of the decor in the room. Rugs are also generally one of the more expensive decor items you will buy for the room so it will probably be changed less than something such a cushion covers.
The colour or colours you choose in your rug will be dictated by many factors, but the first thing will be whether you are starting from scratch decorating the room. If so then you can go wild and choose anything that takes your fancy, knowing you will be able to use this to set the mood for the room and choose decor to match it later. If however you are just wanting to freshen up the room or perhaps replace an old rug which is more often the case, then your choices may be a little more restricted.
Take a look around the room, if you have alot of colour and texture in your other furniture and decor, it may be wiser to choose a more plain style of rug to go with the decor you already have. If, however you feel the room needs a bit of a lift, then don't be scared to choose a heavily pattered or brightly coloured rug as this might be just the thing the room needs.
Add some colour!
Beautiful Stripped Rainbow Kids Rugs
You can also help unify the look of the room by adding some wall art, cushions or perhaps a vase in the same colours as your new rug.
Rugs come in a variety of different materials such as wool, heat set polypropylene, jute, BCF (bulk continuous filament polypropylene) and more. This can be a little confusing so we have a little guide below to help you choose a material for your rug.
The drawback with wool is generally they can cost quite a bit more than synthetic rugs.
Wool rugs in soft pastel colours can make a room feel more inviting.
That said however they will last for years if cared for and are very inexpensive so you can update the look of your room with out breaking the bank.

Jute/Sisal: Jute and sisal rugs have a natural look that can really bring and organic feel to a room. While these rugs are very hard wearing its important to note they will are a little harsher underfoot than some of our other rugs and also can stain easier like all natural rugs so its important to clean up stains as quickly as possible.
Tumu Hand Woven Tribal Jute Rug
We often get asked what size rug people should buy for their house. This one can be hard to answer as there are a few things to consider such as furniture and room size.
Small Rugs - Small rugs are usually from 150x80cm up to 170x120cm. Great for small living areas and bedrooms, these size rugs can be used to highlight furniture pieces as well.
Medium Rugs - The standard size for a medium rug is 230x160cm. Our most popular size rug. Great for under the coffee table in your living room, bedrooms and home offices.
Large Rugs - 290x200cm, good size for most lounge rooms, and dining rooms. This size will allow you to have the feet of your furniture on the rug which generally looks better than having a smaller rug.
Extra Large Rugs - Extra large rugs are generally considered to be 330x240cm to 400x300cm. Extra large size rugs are great for large living rooms, 8-10 seat dining settings, master bedrooms and large entertaining areas.
230x160cm can go well at the end of your bed
Thanks for reading our guide, and we hope this helps you on your journey to finding a new rug.

Colour is back!. While you will still be surrounded by boho décor, colour fans will be happy to hear, that colour is making a comeback, in the form of modern bohemian.
Deep Green, as in this Diamond Twist rug is right in vogue this year and if you team it with a deep green velvet lounge, you will have hit the mark.
Not a fan of green? Navy and Taupe is also a great colour combination this season and teams well with any colour. Sticking with neutrals on the walls and adding colour with your soft furnishings, such as rugs and cushions, is always a good rule to follow.
Our Oasis range is heavily inspired by the modern bohemian design trend, available in vivid brights and soft neutral palettes to suit various design themes.
An example of Jungalow style
Navy also goes well with the next trend, which you may have seen a hint of in Summer.
Jungalow is all things botanical, and is inspired by blogger, Junstina Blackeney. Indoor pot plants and wall paper with palm trees are back in vogue this season and there is some great rattan furniture to complete the look. Think palm springs, capri, Hawaii, its all in the mix.
Capri Palm Springs Stone and Soft Blue Rug
MOROCCAN Recycled Plastic Mat, AUBERGINE & White 1.8 x 2.7m
In closing, as it has been with the last 10 years or so, you can make any trend your own, as long as the colours are right, and you have a workable and balanced space to live in, or Hygge as the Swedish would say.

As we head towards winter its time to take a look at the often overlooked item that will help keep your floors looking cleaner and add to the first impression that guests have of your home. Which item are we talking about?.. The mighty doormat of course!
Much of the dirt that is bought into your home from shoes and be stopped in its tracks with a good quality door mat. Not only does a door mat stop dirt being bought in and make your life easier but it can also look amazing and set colour tone for rest of your house.
All door mats are NOT born equal so in this weeks blog article we will take a look at some of the different types and work out which is suitable for you.
Coir Doormats:
Coir is a natural fibre that is extracted from the husk of a coconut. They can come in both a PVC backed or unbacked form. The unbacked mats will allow water to drain through. These mats are available in a many different qualities, its important to check the thickness and weight because the super cheap ones will just fall apart over time. Quality really matters here.
Pros: These mats are excellent at scraping dirt off shoes and are also some of the best looking (in our humble opinion) mats around.
Cons: Coir is natural fibre so generally do shed a bit. Meaning over the life of the mat some of the mat will come into the house with you. This is quite minimal however but its something to be aware of when considering your new doormat.
Rubber Doormats:
Rubber doormats are the most functional mats, often used in commercial applications these can still be suitable in domestic situations where appearance isn't as important such as the entry from a garage.
Pros: Very good at removing dirt from shoes, generally have holes in them so water can drain through. They can also be used as comfort mats if you need to stand in one place for a long period of time. (more of a commercial use generally)
Cons: Not the most attractive door mats around. Generally just black in colour and functional looking. Can sometimes deteriorate in extreme cold. (generally not applicable to Australian climate however unless you live on a mountain!)
Synthetic Pile Doormats:
These doormats usually have a pile made from Polypropylene and have a rubber dam around the edge which acts as a barrier to stop dirt from coming off the mat and well as keeping moisture on the pile as well. These also usually have a non slip backing.
Pros: Excellent at removing dirt as well as the best at removing moisture from shoes, this is important to note. If its been raining these will do a great job at getting most of the water off the shoes and stop it from coming inside.
Cons: Not as good looking as a coir doormat generally. Polypropylene can also flatten over time so the life of these mats is sometimes not as good as a rubber or coir doormat.
Tips for using doormats effectively:
Use doormats at ALL entrances to your home: Even from areas such as garages. It will pay off because you will have to do less vacuuming
Mat both inside and outside: Meaning one outside the door and one inside. This gives you two opportunities to stop the dirt coming in. Often using a great looking coir outside the door and then a Synthetic doormat inside is a great combo because one will scrape the shoe and then any left over dirt or moisture will be absorbed by the second mat
Clean your doormats often: Over time a door mat can get so full of dirt it wont be able to do its job anymore. Just shake the mat or hit it against a solid surface and it will be good to go!
Of course Floorsome has you covered for all your doormat needs, see our full range of doormats here:

Sisal, Cotton, Jute, & Wool rugs are all made from naturally occurring plant and animal materials and have grown in popularity due to the fact they are environmentally friendly while adding an organic natural look to your home. These rugs are also harder wearing in general than other rugs. So when buying one of these rugs there are several things to consider.
So lets go over each type of material you may find in natural fibre rugs, starting with....
Jute is very popular due to the fact that its softer than other materials while still being hard wearing. Jute has a natural brown hue due to the way its harvested. It actually grows in green stalks which are then soaked stripped and spun. These rugs are at home just as much in an office as they are in a beach shack.
Cleaning Tip: Spot clean and vacuum regularly.
Our favourite Jute Rug:
Iris Indigo Blue Jute Rug from $130
Sisal is the strongest of the natural fibre rugs, so much so its often used in rope and twine. It's derived from the green leaves of the agave sisalana cactus plant which grows in Africa and Brazil. Because sisal is such a strong fibre its a great choice for high traffic areas. Sisal is coarser underfoot than jute however and shouldn't be used in any wet areas as it tends to absorb liquids and can strain easier than other natural fibre rugs.
Cleaning Tip:
The key here is to clean stains as quickly as possible before they soak into the fibre. These rugs also benefit from a regular vacuum.
Our favourite Sisal Rug
Natural Sisal Rug Boucle Marble from $99
Cotton is a natural fibre manufactured from the cotton plant. Durable and very easy to clean, cotton is commonly used for flat or woven styles. Cotton rugs are really well priced and are a great way to spruce up an area without breaking the bank. Many of our cotton rugs are reversible as well so you can get two designs for the price of one!
Cleaning tip:
Regular vacuum as well a spot cleaning is essential. These rugs can also benefit from occasional dry cleaning.
Our favourite cotton rug:
Blueberry Cotton Printed Braided Round Blue Rug from $99
Super hard wearing, super soft and super long lasting. Wool is the gold standard for natural fibre rugs. Although wool rugs can be more expensive than other types of natural fibre rugs they will last such a long time that they are generally a great investment. They also respond well to steam cleaning and can come up good as new years down the line. The only small drawback with wool is it can stain a little easier than synthetic fibre rugs and as such stains should be treated as quickly as possible.
Cleaning tip: Regular vacuuming and spot cleaning. If a spill is made its essential the stain is cleaned as quickly as possible.

Therefore we present this guide to you on how to keep your rug looking new for many years and keeping the stains at bay.
Disclaimer: All of these methods are tried and tested but we take no responsibility if your rug gets damaged due to cleaning with these methods. For further advice speak to a professional carpet cleaner.
General Maintenance
General Cleaning
(Always do a spot test on a small area before trying any of these!)
More cleaning tips for specific types of stains and spills:
Candle Wax: Take a clean white towel and place it over the wax then use your iron to heat up the towel, the wax will turn back to liquid and you will easily be able to scrape it off with a butter knife. Then take a white paper towel and put that over the remainder of the wax and put the iron on it and it will heat up and adhere to the paper.
(Be very careful not to burn the rug with this method, only use a low setting with the iron and only apply for 30 second at a time)
Coffee, Egg, Cordial, Soft drink and Tea: Spot clean with mild detergent and then rinse with water.
Urine, Faeces, and Vomit: Apply detergent solution or a citrus-oxygen cleaner, rinse, and blot until dry.
Grease and Oil Based Stains: these can be removed by applying pure eucalyptus oil to an undyed towel then dabbing/rubbing over the stain.
Paint: For latex and acrylic based paint blot with detergent while the stain is still wet and then blot with rubbing alcohol if the colour still remains. For oil based paint you can use a cloth to blot up as much of the pain as possible then add some turpentine to the cloth and continue to blot, the turpentine will help separate the paint from the carpet fibre.

Once you have an account with Afterpay or zipPay you can just browse their directories which have hundreds of fantastic online stores knowing you are ready to go with your line of credit. Once you find an item, you can simply checkout without filling in lengthy credit card forms, and before you know it your goodies are showing up at your doorstep!
They also offer a more structured repayment system which allows you to keep your finances under control. (As opposed to a credit card where its really easy to spend more than you should!)
Now lets take a close look at these two giants of E-Commerce in a head to head battle and see who comes out on top!
Both Afterpay and zipPay have limited credit checks and both a quite easy to sign up with but there are some key differences.
Afterpay
Afterpay makes it very easy, in fact you don't even need to register with them prior to your purchase, you simply find a shop that offers Afterpay and then just choose that at checkout. All you need to provide is a credit card for payment and away you go, it's that easy. Your account is automatically setup for you upon your first purchase.
The only downside here is you might not always get approved, Afterpay use a bunch of different metrics to decide if you are able to be approved or not including your location and even what model of phone you use. If you get rejected you wont get a reason you will just be asked to try again later. Its important to note each time you make a purchase you are either approved or rejected, there is no set limit like a credit card.(There is a max limit of $1000 for new customers however but this could be anywhere from 250 - 1000 you will never actually know.)
zipPay
zipPay works a little more like a credit card in terms of how credit applications are handled. That being said its just as easy to apply for zipPay and you can also do it at checkout the same as Afterpay. With zipPay you will get approved for a credit limit, directly from the zipPay website, "zipPay offers 3 different credit limits: $250, 500 and 1000. Our algorithm will automatically decide which maximum limit you will be eligible for based on our minimum criteria evaluated during the application process." The advantage here is that once you have been approved you know exactly how much money you have to spend and wont have to face the disappointment of being rejected at checkout.
Winner: Tie
Both Afterpay and zipPay make it super easy to sign up and get your item as quickly as possible. Although there is a chance you might not get approved at every sale for Afterpay its always there as an option to try. With zipPay, you can go in knowing what you can spend which is more suitable for some people.
How your repayments are handled is very important when managing a budget so we will go over the differences between the two here.
Afterpay
Afterpay has a very rigid repayment schedule, basically its 4 equal instalments paid over 8 weeks. Payments are to be made every 2 weeks. The only variable here is you may need to pay your first payment upfront at the time of purchase if you are a new customer or your order is over $500.
zipPay
This is where zipPay has an advantage over Afterpay, with zipPay you get to choose your repayments and you have much more control on how payments are handled. The only rule is you must pay at least $40 back per month, as long as that is followed you can take as long as you like to pay it back. There is a small fee of $5 each month where a balance is outstanding (after the initial 60 day fee free period).
Winner: zipPay
We have to hand this round to zipPay, with its much more flexible payment options you are in total control of how you pay back your loan.
Both Afterpay and zipPay are 100% interest free but there are a couple of fees that can be payable depending on the situation.
Afterpay
Payments are automatically deducted from your chosen account, if for some reason this payment fails you will be charged a $10 dollar late fee and then another $7 if the payment is not made within 7 days.
zipPay
zipPay have a hilarious answer to late fees so ill just quote them directly "Well, first of all we’d say that’s not really nice as we put a lot of faith in you when we gave you all that money to buy all these products. On top of breaking our heart, we may apply a late fee (of $5) and it may have an effect on your credit score. Now we said it."
So as well as the emotional guilt trip you might get charged $5, which is lower than Afterpay. Although since we are talking about fees in general its also worth noting that you can get up to 60 days with no fees with zippay which is actually a tad longer than Afterpay, However if you take longer to pay for your items it will cost you a little more in the long run.
Winner: Tie
You can use both these payment options and not pay a cent in fees, just don't be late with your payments ok? So if you are not paying any fees how do these companies make money? The merchant pays a fee and in return they get increased sales so its win win!
In the last 6 months Afterpay have made some serious progress with bringing on new retailers. Big names such as Big W, Best and Less, Booktopia, and Myer mean the great products sold by these companies are available to buy now and pay later. While zipPay is also available on a great range of online stores Afterpay appear to have surged ahead for now.
Winner: Afterpay
There is no way to decisively say which of these two payment options is better than the other overall. Both offer great ways to get the products you want now and pay it back later. Each should be considered based on your personal circumstances and then a decision made. Or you know.... just get both?
Of course Floorsome offers both these great payment solutions and we find them to be more popular than traditional payment methods!

With the growing popularity of hard floors, it has become essential to have a kids rug in their room and in a family room, that looks great, is comfy to sit on, and can stand up to the rough and tumble of kids play.
Shags are great for kids bedrooms as they are super comfy and can hide a multiple of sins so they don't have to be vacuumed every day. Always a bonus. They are also gentle on tiny knees and bottoms. Pink is still the number one choice for girls rooms, but you could change it up a bit with a beige or a charcoal.
Click here to see our pink shag pile rugs!
For older girls you might want to consider a flatweave patterned rug. The rug pictured is a gorgeous pink and white flatweave, very stylish and would suit any style decor. There are heaps of cushions around in the stores that will match this rug as well. It matches any style, from Boho to shabby chic.
Flat Weave Trellis Design Pink White Rug
2. What little boy wouldn't love this bright blue rug in his room. It is acrylic so is very soft and the pattern is bright without being overpowering. It hits lots of points as it is multi coloured, striking, goes with all colours from blue right through to black, and is easy clean. It is soft on tiny hands and feet. A great way to give an instant lift to any room.
Eclectic Chevron Rug Navy Blue
3. Kids Playrooms
These are my favourite patterns for kids rugs for family rooms or playrooms. Because they are multi coloured, they will stay looking fresh and clean, and its easy to vacuum as well. Besides being very practical it is also very in vogue at the moment, as Tribal is the latest trend. Just be careful of the random bits of lego left behind though! ouch!
The rug on the right is also multicolured and would be suited to a kids play area. Its soft, vacuums easily and will last for years, or at least until the children leave home. It will probably still be good enough for them to take with them!
Kata Modern Red RugSo these are just a few of the hundreds of rugs we have in store, and the prices are not to be beaten. Free Delivery, money back, fuss free returns, friendly service. What are you waiting for?!
]]>Its easy to achieve this look with a few simple tweaks. Best news of all, you don't have to throw out all your furniture to achieve this look. Just a can of white paint. A great place to look for this style, if you are looking for furniture, is one of the upcycling sites of facebook, such as Rustic Edge, and Home Styling Werx.
First of all, blue and white are the colours to add. This is different from a Nordic look, which doesn't have a lot of blue at all, more white and natural. However, you don't have to change all the furnishings, as this look can be achieved with a few new soft furnishings. You can even keep the wooden furniture if you don't have the budget to change it, as it actually goes quite well with white and blue and can add a bit of interest, thus avoiding a too sterile look. A little bit of whitewash on the furniture looks great.
.

If your budget allows it, some new furniture in rattan, or another natural material will be a good first step. Then adding a rug and new cushions can help enormously.
Click here to see this rug in our store
Avoid the temptation to add lots of little "beachy" type ornaments, apart from a few select pieces to avoid the feeling of a holiday rental. Keep it simple with gorgeous white chunky candle holders, large natural baskets, crisp white bedlinen, with a few blue tones.
The furniture doesn't have to be traditional as modern works just as well. A rug in a modern style or a jute rug works well. A bit of greenery will work as well. In my opinion, too much navy and white is a bit of an overkill, and looks a little sterile.
All in all, its a fun way to decorate, is always in style, so wont date for years to come, and its easy to change the furniture and soft furnishings without breaking the bank.
That has to be a good thing, right?
]]>
First thing is to get your tribal on, because you will see feather Ju Jus, tribal necklaces, and handmade shell and macrame items flood the home wares market.
So handmade and ethnic are the words of the moment.
click here to find these products in our store.
Jute and sisal rugs are very popular , as they can give an instant lift to any decor, and are as natural as you can get. Think beachy, natural, calming. Moroccan wedding blankets will be used as throws, and hand dipped cotton cushions will complete the picture. Rugs that will be in vogue are Moroccan style, tribal, and a flat weave in a trellis design.
Think tactile, natural, in beiges, browns, and creams. Think geometric, flat weave designs as well, such as Kilms. Geometric flat weaves are also still very much in fashion. These will compliment your existing decor perfectly, or match your new updated look, with pot plants, tribal necklace and jute baskets, all setting the scene for a more natural handmade feeling in our homes. A word of warning, don't go for everything in a handmade, vintage look, or your room may end up looking like a tribute to the 70's museum.
Not all rugs are handmade, and there are still plenty of machine made rugs that are much easier on the purse strings to give you that feeling. Just add a few gorgeous handmade crochet cushions and you will have an instant update!
click here to find the rugs in our store
If cream and natural are not your thing, you can add colour with the whole range of greens, teals and deeper blues, which will also match perfectly with the trend of indoor pot plants in concrete pots and macrame holders, also entering the market this year. Machine made rugs are the best idea for coloureds, as they wont fade and are much easier to clean than handmades. Don't have a green thumb? Don't worry, you can fake it somewhat with leafy green cushions, and dare we say it, fake succulents.
So, shop for Moroccan, Kilm, Flat weaves and short shags.Think Marrakesh, Far East, Oriental, and anything that evokes that feeling
What is driving this trend? My feeling is the chaotic political situation, and a renewed awareness of the fragile nature of the planet, has made us retreat back to what we considered a simpler time, when we knitted, and crocheted our way through our everyday lives. Its been coming for awhile, but its here, and I for one, as a child of the 70's couldnt be happier.
]]>
It feels like things are just getting more and more expensive. Rent and house prices keep going up (unless you live in WA), fuel bills, power bills, water bills, tax bills, bill bills etc etc.
With all these bills how are we supposed to find the money to update the decor in our homes? Well not to worry, Floorsome is here to rescue you with an info-graphic on six ways to freshen up your home without breaking the bank.
I hope you find some useful information in there. If you would like to take our advice you can find our Door Mats here.
Floorsome also offers a range of cushion covers here. Our range is quite small at the moment but we are adding new ones all the time so be sure to check back.
And of course our full range of indoor rugs are available right here. With some really great full size rugs starting at only $89 dollars shipped to your door you really cant go wrong.

1. They bring your outdoor setting to life.
To prove this point I want to show you two examples.
Firstly here is a pic of a white timber outdoor setting without an outdoor rug under it.
This is missing something.......
I'm really sorry if the person who took this pic or owns this sees this, its actually really nice but its missing something. (I wonder what that could be)
Exhibit B:
Now we are talking
Obviously these aren't the exact same outdoor settings but very similar. Just by adding the outdoor rug suddenly the whole thing pops and the colours all tie in together. White and blue always work well and this is no exception.
2. Easy to clean
All you need to do to care for these rugs is turn the hose on them once in a while. Because they are made of plastic mold cannot grow on them. If you do happen to spill something like red wine or tomato sauce on it just use some carbonated water and a soft cloth and the mark is gone!
Click on the picture to find delicious soda water from Coles.
3. Environmentally Friendly
Its really important to be conscious of your environmental impact. All our outdoor rugs are made from 100% recycled plastic. Old milk cartons, plastic bags etc are collected and used to make the fibres that are wound together to make these rugs. They actually feel really soft while being super hard wearing.
(Also lets be honest, it makes it easier to justify the purchase if you tell yourself you are helping the environment right?)
Mother earth loves you, make sure you love her back. (not guilt tripping you i swear).
4. Use them anywhere around the home
Using these rugs under an outdoor setting is only the suggested use. You can use them anywhere in your house, you need something hard wearing, waterproof and great looking. Just don't forget to put a rug pad under it if its going to be on a hard floor.
I can suggest kitchens, kids rooms, entryways and the laundry to name a few.
Just take it outside and hose it off when they spill stuff all over it.
5. Use them as picnic or camping rugs
Again the versatility of these rugs shows through when you realise you can take them everywhere and anywhere. Take one with you on a nice picnic with your family, they are so light and easy to clean they really do shine at this.
Going camping? Put one down out the front of your tent or caravan to keep the dirt at bay and have a nice soft clean surface to sit on.
Me on a picnic in the beautiful Neil Hawkins Park in Joondalup, Western Australia.
6. Price
In terms of being able to completely redefine how and area looks the value of one of these rugs is unbeatable. A good quality indoor rug generally costs at least $200 - $300. Our best selling outdoor rug the Lhasa Orange and Violet in its largest size (270cm x 180cm) is only $105 delivered to your door!
If you don't need such a large size we also have some great smaller ones like this black and white one.
7. So many styles and colours
Boho style backyard. Stunning
The above picture really speaks for itself. Use one of these rugs to make your outdoor (or indoor) area work for you and have the look and feel you want.
And of course all of our outdoor rugs are available right here with free delivery.
If you have any more reasons why outdoor rugs are the best please leave a comment below.

Absolutely love this website, hit up the top decorating posts and there is a whole wealth of information such as coffee table styling, style a book case and the secret to decorating a fireplace.

Started in 2008 The Design Files covers Australian design in all its forms – from architecture and interiors to gardens, food, fine art and craft. The Design Files has been featured in various publications, including Real Living Magazine, Design Quarterly and Inside Out Magazine. Our favourite section is the Australian Homes section which showcases real Aussie houses you can totally relate to.
Pink and green working in perfect harmony
This site was started in 2011 by Jen Bishop. It was a hobby that blossomed into a full on interiors news site with 90,000 Aussie readers. The site features daily articles with my favourite being Jens Lust List. A unique feature of the site is the job board where people can post up jobs relating to interior design for free!
I love how this dog is nearly the same colour and texture as the rug.
The blog has won many awards and listed in several "best of" lists. The founder, Emily Osmond mentions starting the website in 2012 as a way of sharing inspiration and tips for gorgeous spaces and products. It features a cool article called "5 ways to create a serotonin-full home" with a focus on using the space you have to make you feel happy.
So so happy, that monkey must be hilarious.
With daily updates yellow trace offers heaps of information making it more of a design news site than a blog. The founder is Dana Tomić Hughes who works with her partner Nick to create one of Australia's leading home decor information sites.
Well there you have it. I would have put Floorsome's Flooring Blog at the top of the list but apparently I am biased so I left it off. Or maybe it just goes without saying who knows.
Thanks for reading and leave a comment on any more blogs you cant live without.

How many times have you flicked through the rugs at a local rug store and been completely bamboozled by the description and haven't a clue what any of it means. Then, the pushy salesman talks so fast that you cant quite understand what he is saying, so you are just nodding your head. Eventually you walk out with nothing.
Well with this handy blog you wont even have to venture into the store and you can buy online with confidence that you are getting what you want and what you have paid for.
These are the cheapest type of rugs, generally under $100 and great if you just want an easy
cover up for a rental or as a wall hanging.
A heat set polypropylene rug is one in which the yarn is processed to produce soft fibers that are resistant to wear and tear and repel stains. This type of rug is anti static, which makes vacuuming easier because animal hairs and lint don't easily adhere to the fibres. One million points is considered the highest quality.
Hand tufted means that the acrylic fibre has been glued to the backing after tufting, that is looping without tying knots. Production of a hand-tufted area rug takes a fraction of the time to make, therefore greatly reducing the cost.
These rugs are very similar to 100% acrylic but have some polyester added.
The care is the same.
There are varying degrees in the quality and price of wool rugs. The less expensive ones come from India, and the more expensive ones tend to be made from New Zealand wool. The New Zealand ones tend to be softer underfoot. However Indian wools are a great alternative without spending a fortune.
Shag pile is another rug type that has been popular the last few years. They really took the rug world by storm, and they come in many types of textile. Great for kids as they are very comfy to sit on and tend to not show every mark. The new kid on the block is a short shag, so it is still comfy, but has a shorter pile to be easier to vacuum and doesn't hide the bits of split food.
Jute and sisal rugs have really come into fashion in the last year or so. Because they are hand made, they can be made in a lot of different shapes, such as rounds. The cleaning is a little more involved with jute rugs and they are not really suitable for outdoors for any length of time.
Last but certainly not the least is outdoor rugs. Made from recycled plastic straws, these rugs are great for brightening up your outdoor area, and giving it a bit of pizzazz.
We have covered most types of rugs in this blog, except for the really traditional silk and hand knotted rugs from Pakistan Iran and Afghanistan, which are the ancient homes of hand knotted rugs. But that's another blog completely.

]]>1. Measure the room
In my years of experience in flooring I have noticed there are a lot of people who just go the store and wing it. This will never work out well because things in stores always look different when you get them back home.
There is even an app for it according to Gizmodo. ( No idea if this works so probably just use a tape measure.)
2. Always check the size if buying online
A rug might look large in pictures but you never really know because a skilled photographer can make things look smaller or larger by using camera angles etc.
(BTW Floorsome always make the size clear before you buy :-))
And you really don't want to end up like this guy
3.Use a general rule of thumb
According to Harvey Norman
Small Rugs - Small rugs are usually from 80x150cm up to 120x170cm. Small rugs are great to highlight small pieces of furniture and liven up entrance areas, bedrooms and small living areas.
Medium Rugs - The standard size for a medium rug is 160cm x 230cm. This size rug is a good choice for bedrooms, home offices and under coffee tables in living rooms.
Large Rugs - Large rooms generally require a large rug. The standard size for large a rug is 200cm x 300cm. Large rugs are great for living rooms, 6-8 seat dining settings, master bedrooms and rum-pus areas.
Extra Large Rugs - The standard size for an extra large rug is 240cm x 340cm. Extra large size rugs are great for large living rooms, 8-10 seat dining settings, master bedrooms and large entertaining areas.
4. When in doubt buy 160cm x 230cm
This might sound way too generalised and it kind of is but most rugs are actually this size by default. Seriously go into Bunnings and almost all the rugs will be 160cm x 230cm. It seems to be a thing we have just decided is the right size for our rugs.
5. Furniture legs should be on the rug.
Another general rule is to make sure you bed or chair or lounge has its visable legs on the rug. For example
A table with chairs, make sure you can pull them out and stay on the rug.
like so
Thanks DIY DECORATOR
If you are still not sure send us an email at info@floorsome.com.au and attach a pic of the area you want to put the rug down and we will do our best to recommend a size :-)
]]>
Well that all depends.. so read on
If you are after a purely practical solution for matting for your entryways we highly recommend a polypropylene door mat with a rubber edge. These sorts of mats are fantastic because the fibre they use is the same as in most commercial carpets so you know they will be hard-wearing. Secondly having a rubber dam around the edge will keep all the dirt on the mat instead of bringing it inside with you. Thirdly these mats usually have a non-slip backing so they wont go anywhere.
If you want a mat to stand out and make an impression then you cant go past a printed coir mat. These mats always look great and have a PVC backing which acts as a nonslip function as well as keeping the mat together for years and years! All out printed coir mats have this as well as high definition dye that stays looking great for a long time.
Stay tuned for more advice and please email us at info@floorsome.com.au for any advice on which mat to buy.
We are also adding new products each week.
]]>With the huge popularity of outdoor entertaining in Australia, the demand for outdoor mats has increased markedly. The original rugs for outdoors were simply jute or sisal, which wasnt really suitable for outdoors but did a reasonable job. They also tended to "shed" which left the consumer with the problem of messy floors. Well, a lot has changed in the last couple of years, I must say.
We now have recycled plastic and polypropylene in bright colours taking the market by storm, and they are proving very popular. They are inexpensive and easy to clean, as a quick hose down will do the job. Outdoor mats have come of age, you could say.
So, if you are looking for an instant "lift" an outdoor mat is the way to go.
